Under the pilot scheme, passengers will have to go through a security check themselves, rather than only receiving security checks for their belongings as is current practice, to board the subway. The new security facilities will be installed in the three busiest stations in Beijing by the upcoming February.
Most passengers have welcomed the new rule which addresses the issue of people avoiding detection for carrying dangerous articles on themselves rather than in their hand luggage under the current security check system.
Yu Tao, a transit project manager at the Beijing Traffic and Transport Institute, said that the mass application of the passenger security check process in Beijing is not feasible at present, but the authority will push forward the policy according to the results of the pilot program.
